Obituary for Larry Hubbard

Larry Hubbard, a retired coal miner and devoted father, died unexpectedly at the Advent Health of Manchester, on March 9, 2019 at the age of 68.

Larry was born Dec. 8, 1950 to the union of Landy Hubbard and Bessie Keen. He lived most of his life in Manchester, KY, but spent his last years in Lily, KY with his wife, Goldie. Larry worked almost 30 years in the deep mines as a bolt machine operator. He was proud of his work and often joked that he had coal dust running through his veins. In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time in the mountains, four-wheeling or hunting with his son and grandsons. He loved music and watching television. He loved spending time with his family most of all, and he never failed to tell them just how much he loved them. He always told his kids and grandkids that he loved them more.

Larry will always be remembered for his gentle nature and loving heart. He was so incredibly kind and humble. He had a servant's heart, putting everyone else's needs before his own. He would give you the shirt off his back, the shoes from his feet, and the the last dollar from his wallet. He wanted everyone to be happy and feel loved.

Out of all the things Larry accomplished in his life, he was most proud of his son and two daughters, Ray Hubbard and his wife Ashley, of Manchester, KY, Tammy Sizemore and her husband Willis, of Tyner, KY, and Patsy Smallwood and her husband Brandon, of Tyner, KY. Larry also had four step-children that he loved like his own, Mike Wagers, of Lily, KY, Marisa Stavely and her husband Chris, of London, KY, Gary Lawson and his wife DeJean of Lily, KY, and Renee Combs, of Lily, KY.

Larry was blessed with a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren. He love them more than life and in return they adored him. Larry was "Papaw Spitcup", the fun papaw, the papaw that would do whatever his grandkids wanted, for however long they wanted to do it.

Larry left four brothers and sisters to morn his passing, his brother Clovis Hubbard of London, KY, his sister Louannie Swafford of London, KY, his brother Kenneth Hubbard of Manchester, KY, and his brother Leon Hubbard of Corbin, KY. He was preceded in death by his first born son, Larry Wayne Hubbard, his father Landy Hubbard and his mother Bessie, his older brothers, Brad, Chris, and General Hubbard, and his twin sister, Mary. We find comfort in knowing that the family circle will be unbroken and he is rejoicing with them all around God's throne.

The family will receive friends at Britton Funeral Home on March 12, 2019 at noon, service will immediately follow at 2 pm. Larry will be carried to his final resting place at the Harris Cemetery on Barbourville Road in Manchester, KY.

Britton Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
